Almost that time of year..

Published by Daniel Cody under Personal

As October approaches, signs of fall can be found all around downtown Milwaukee these days: Fewer people are sitting outside at bars & restuarants during the evening, I have to put the top on my car up when driving to work in the mornings, and NHL previews are coming out!

After last seasons Stanley Cup Championship run, the Detroit RedWings lost their Head Coach and starting goaltender - both of whom were at the top of the league at their respective position - which for most teams would lead to a dismall outlook for the following season. They’ve kept the core of their team however, and are looking to repeat as NHL champions for the second straight year, and the fourth in seven years. Check out CNNSI’s or what ESPN has to say about the upcoming season for the Wings.

Opening game: Oct 10th vs. the San Jose Sharks! Go Wings!!!

Clearly Blazing the Trail

More good news on the Open Source software front, this time in the area of accessibility for the blind:

GNOME Accessibility Architecture” has been singled out in this year’s “Helen Keller Achievement Award in Technology”, one of the annual “Helen Keller Awards” presented by the American Foundation for the Blind. “

GNOME is a free, popular desktop manager for Unix operating systems like Linux by the way. It’s advancements like this that are making Linux a more viable solution on the desktop, which more and more people are starting to realize, if not see outright.. ;)
