Wedding Site, or, Our ‘Wedlog’

May 23rd, 2003

So this week we finally finished up our ‘Save theDATE’ cards, these pre-invitation postcards that are an informal announcement to let people know which day we’re getting married so they can mark it on their calendar months in advance, and got them in the mail. We printed them ourselves to save money, but Jenny ended up having to hand write the back side of the postcard because OS X Office just wouldn’t print a 3×5 sized card. Thats a whole other story though.

Some readers may have noticed the lack of posting about our wedding here, on my space that’s supposed to be about that sort of stuff. The truth is, we’ve been keeping most of that on a seperate wedding specific website!

Jen and Dan’s wedding site has been available for a few months now, and we’re keeping a ‘journal’ (aka weblog) about many of the situations we’ve encountered during our wedding planning in addition to directions to the wedding, event’s listing, registry information, and all sorts of fun stuff. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but content is king after all!

I’m sure the weblog part will go over the heads of most of our families, but it’s more for us, because when so many things are happening so fast, you tend to forget the fun things that happened along the way. Keeping a journal of events can help you remember those sorts of fun but small details.

We’ll be out of town over the weekend on our annual Memorial Day ‘Biking and Camping Expedition’ in middle Wisconsin, so we’ll see ya Tuesday. Have a great holiday weekend to those in the states!

Weekend Update

May 12th, 2003

A few months ago, I wrote about how I’d taken on the ‘Linux Product Review’ position at Digital Web magazine and should have an article out ‘real soon’.

I’m happy to announce – albeit a bit slower than I had anticipated – the first article under the ‘Linux Product Review’ banner at DW and my first public writing in over a year, a review of the Quanta Gold editor on the Linux platform.

The verdict for those who aren’t into HTML editors or Linux: It’s not a bad HTML editor/environment, but is pretty rough around the edges. Hopefully the wheels begin to turn a bit faster now, and another article is ready soon :)

Another event that I’ve been working hard on lately(with a great deal of help from a number of people) is the new f2o Groups service which provides mailing lists and newsletter management services, as well as a few other fun extras. In the spirit of f2o.org, it’s a free service to our existing members, although there are options for others as well. I’m pretty excited about the new service, since I’ve got years of experience with the Mailman package it’s based on. Having that experience allows me to put in a lot of little tweaks and enhancements that really makes it stand out from other hosted mailing list places.

Also this weekend, Jenny and I got to taste some different cakes from a potential ‘wedding cake maker’, and man were they good. We didn’t even have to sit through a meeting or anything, they just let us pick up two six inch cakes and take them home! I’m starting to think the hardest part of our wedding is going to be losing the weight I’ve put on over the past 2 months from all the catering tastings and now cake tastings! Not that I’m complaining ;)
