Published by Daniel Cody under Politics

My old pal Rajan has informed me that presidential canidate Howard Dean is going to be in Milwaukee this Friday, June 13th.

The details:

  1. 4:00 pm: Rally For Dean:

Kilmer School, Behind Sheraton Four Points Hotel; SW corner.

    (4807 S 2nd St Milwaukee, WI 53207 )

  2. 8:00 pm: Presidential Program:

Sheraton Four Points Hotel. Watch Governor Howard Dean, M.D. and other

presidential candidate address the Wisconsin Democratic State Convention.

Register with the Wisconsin State Democratic Party, $20.00 at the door. Call

608-255-5172 to register with the Wisconsin State Democratic Party.

  3. 9:00 PM: Dean Hospitality Suite:

New Orleans Room, Sheraton Four Points Hotel

    (4747 S Howell Ave., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53207)

Tickets for the entire day are $20, which is a pretty good deal as far as these things go. I have heard quite a bit about Mr. Dean lately, and a lot of what he has to say (and how he says it) sounds good to my ears. For more information, or to sign up for the rally, head to the official Dean for America website.

Wireless Coming to Milwaukee Parks

Looks like free wireless Internet access is finally coming to metro Milwaukee parks! The city is setting up high-speed wireless networks in Pere Marquette Park and Cathedral Square Park, and both are expected to be operational by the end of June. All you’ll need is a computer with a wireless network card to use the services.

It’s pretty cool to see Milwaukee leading the way in free public Internet access like this, and I’m sure that once people get a taste of being able to do small amounts of work in a park on a warm summer day, the idea will spread to other parks and public places as well.

It will be interesting to see how many of the ‘look at me with my laptop doing work outside’ crowd will show up. You know the type, those people that always have to be ‘wired’, and think things like web-enabled showers, toasters, and cars have promise. While there’s a part of me that likes the idea of being able to use the Internet anywhere, another part of me likes the idea of not being connected to the Internet at all times, and simply enjoying what a park (for example) has to offer.
