Our Liberal Media!

Published by Daniel Cody under Politics

Jenny and I just got done watching the John Edwards speech on CNN about an hour ago, and by all accounts it was a wonderful piece of sophistry from the North Carolina Senator.

I was a little more than disappointed though when not 2 minutes after the Edwards speech CNN brings out not one but two GOP spokespeople to comment on the nights events. Edwards goes on for 30 minutes about how the Kerry/Edwards ticket is the right choice for America (In his opinion of course) then CNN gives 10 minutes for a GOP spokesperson to rattle off the tired ‘they’re the biggest liberals in the Senae’ talking points. For a counterpoint, they brought in another GOP spokesperson who undoubtedly would’ve echoed the first ones talking points, but she had sound problems or something.

So they give GOP guy #1 another 5 minutes. And not to talk about anything that actually was relevant in Edwards’ speech, just repeating the same talking points he started with, because he only planned on bringing 10 minutes of material, not 15.

Amazing.

I just hope, in the interest of balance, that this September after Dick Cheney gets done giving his keynote address, CNN brings on two Democratic spokespeople for ‘analysis’ on the VP’s speech.

Your Tax Dollars Hard at Work - Halliburton

Published by Daniel Cody under Uncategorized

It seems everyone’s favorite defense contactor has a wee accounting problem:

Halliburton Co. has lost $18.6 million of government property in Iraq, about a third of the items it was given to manage, including trucks, computers and office furniture, government auditors claim.

The auditors couldn’t account for 6,975 of 20,531 items on the ledgers of Halliburton’s KBR unit, according to a report by Stuart Bowen, auditor for the coalition provisional authority inspector general. - Houston Chronical

Never mind asking silly questions like, “How, exactly, do you just go and lose things like trucks?”, or “How come when I can’t account for a $2.43 deduction on last years income taxes, the IRS wants to throw me in prison?”. Instead, just rest assured that your tax dollars are hard at work playing a key role in rebuilding Iraq, one lost piece of office furniture at a time.

GOP Moron of the Week

Published by Daniel Cody under Politics

This week’s GOP brainchild is Jack Richardson IV, chairman of the Jefferson County Kentucky GOP for his role in helping to distribute and possibly create a bumber sticker making it’s way around the Louisville area that reads:

“Kerry is bin Laden’s Man/Bush is Mine”

The bumber sticker was even seen hanging in the window of the Jefferson County GOP headquarters, though it’s since been removed.

He said the local GOP had no involvement in creating the bumper stickers, but said the stickers were available at the county’s GOP headquarters, and were a popular item. He said he hoped the local GOP office would receive additional supplies of the stickers. - Lexington Herald Leader

Once again, if the shoe were on the other foot, there would be a 24/7 howling from the talking heads on Fox News and others for the resignation of this guy, and the entire Democratic party would be labeled ‘unpatriotic’ for even suggesting a connection between Bush and Bin Laden.

Another Linux Win in Europe

Published by Daniel Cody under Linux

The French Government decided last week to replace 1500 of it’s WindowsNT servers with Mandrake based Linux servers:

The French Ministry of Equipment has chosen Mandrakelinux Corporate Server to replace 1,500 Microsoft Windows NT servers in a national scale deployment. Recently, Civil Service
Minister Renaud Dutreil was quoted in Reuters as saying “the competition is open” between open-source and Microsoft for the nearly one million government computers. Mandrakesoft is proud to supply the
operating system for the Ministry of Equipment deployment, and to supply open-source alternatives to governments around the world. - Mandrakesoft

1500 servers is a pretty big contract, congrats to Mandrake! Now, if only we could start getting the US government to start seeing the benefits of Open Source…

The Dog Ate It!

Published by Daniel Cody under Politics

Poor Bush, he wanted to prove his worth sooo bad too! Remember those microfilm records that were supposed to prove that he wasn’t a deserter back in the early 70’s? Ooops, they got destroyed. On accident of course.

But only the three months of his service record that were in question.

Move along here, nothing to see folks!
