Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Circulation Continues Slide

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s circulation continues to drop, this time down another 2.3%.

I’ve offered up some possible reasons why in previous posts on the subject. While there are certainly other factors involved in the slide, maybe the paper should try to reconnect with the city it’s supposed to be writing for instead of pandering to conservative suburban readers?

At Least 100 U.S. Soldiers Dead in April

Another tragic month for U.S. soldiers and their familes:

Five U.S. troops were killed in separate attacks in the capital this weekend, including three in a single roadside bombing, the military said Monday, pushing the death toll past 100 in the deadliest month so far this year. -

Just remember though that no one suffers from this war more than President Bush and his wife.

When the bill to fund and withdraw troops is vetoed by the President tomorrow, just remember that the President is pushing for months like April to continue into the future without end. The bottom line has been said before, but it bears repeating:

Republicans want a war - and all that comes with it - without end in Iraq, Democrats want to end it.

American Public Supports Democratic Iraq Plan

No kidding:

As the Democrat-controlled Congress and the White House clash over an Iraq spending bill, with President Bush vowing to veto it because it contains withdrawal deadlines, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that a solid majority of Americans side with the Democrats - MSNBC

President Bush Tries to Claim November Elections Were a Mandate for His “Surge”

More today from the ongoing saga of “President Bush: Reality Be Damned!”:

Last November, the American people said they were frustrated and wanted a change in our strategy in Iraq. I listened. Today, General David Petraeus is carrying out a strategy that is dramatically different from our previous course. - President Bush

Dear President Bush; there’s spin and there’s you trying to claim that the 2006 midterm elections were anything other than a complete rejection of you, your party, and your policy. Voters went to the polls to choose Democrats for a reason, and the message wasn’t for you to get a “do over” in Iraq, it was for them to change the course of the war and start bringing our troops home.

Seriously. Get over yourself and stop living in a state of denial,

Dan

The Policy of “When They Stand Up We’ll Stand Down” is Over

Taking a break from fatherly duties quickly…

… and another “Great Iraqi Policy Promises by George W. Bush” has met it’s death…

Military planners have abandoned the idea that standing up Iraqi troops will enable American soldiers to start coming home soon and now believe that U.S. troops will have to defeat the insurgents and secure control of troubled provinces.

Training Iraqi troops, which had been the cornerstone of the Bush administration’s Iraq policy since 2005, has dropped in priority, officials in Baghdad and Washington said.

No change has been announced, and a Pentagon spokesman, Col. Gary Keck, said training Iraqis remains important. “We are just adding another leg to our mission,” Keck said, referring to the greater U.S. role in establishing security that new troops arriving in Iraq will undertake. - McClatchy News

The President got all the mileage out of this slogan he could, and now it’s been tossed into the proverbial wastebasket with the rest of his failed plans. Developments like this just make me believe even more that President Bush wants nothing more than an endless war.

More Pictures and Video of Carter Uploaded

Got a bunch more pictures from yesterday and this morning uploaded, here are a few of them:

Those and a whole bunch more can be found here.

I also got a bit of video of Jenny, Carter, and Emerson:

Everyone continues to do well, and we’re scheduled to come home tomorrow!

It’s A Boy! Welcome Carter Charles Cody

UPDATE 04/14/2007: I had a few minutes today to upload the first batch of pictures: Click here to see the pictures of Carter.

Hopefully I get a few minutes tonight to upload some more. Jenny and baby are going fine by the way!

Just stopping at home quick to pick up a few items and thought I’d post here that this morning at 7:14am, Carter Charles Cody was born. He weighed in at 7lbs and 4oz. and is doing well!

This delivery was quite a bit different than the first time, and Jenny had to have a c-section which led to a few minor problems. Nothing major though and both are now doing great!

I should have some pictures up in the next day or so, stay tuned, and thanks for all the thoughts and prayers so far!

Picture From Tueday’s Indians vs. Angels Game at Miller Park

Emerson and I went to the Indians vs. Angels game held at Miller Park on Tuesday. We had great seats - third row, right behind 1st base dugout - and had a great time. em-dan-millerpark.jpg

On another personal note, although we’re still 2 weeks away from the “official” due date, Jenny has been having pretty strong and regular contractions today. It’s looking more and more likely that we’re going to be delivering early, possibly as soon as this weekend.

House Judiciary Committee Now Asking Direct Questions About Timing of Wisconsin U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic’s Indictments

This could be a huge development in learning more about the connection between the Wisconsin Republican Party, Karl Rove, U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic, and the Georgia Thompson case: The House Judiciary Committee has sent a letter to the Republican National Committee asking for all emails pertaining to that connection. A key quote from that letter:

“We have also been advised that there may be RNC e-mail traffic relating to Republican Party concerns about the United States Attorney in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, prior to his announcing, on the eve of the hotly contested 2006 gubernatorial election, that he was indicting an official in the incumbent Democratic governor’s administration.

The question here remains: Was U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic one of the USA’s on the firing list in the Fall of 2006, and did his indictment of Georgia Thompson which allowed Republicans in the State to attempt to link Gov. Doyle to her get him off that list?

The Old “Dog Ate My Email” Trick Isn’t Going to Work For Bush

Glad to see someone calling the White House on thier claim that a bunch of email accounts that White House staff used so they could work on politcs while on the clock have been “mishandled”.

President Bush’s aides are lying about White House e-mails sent on a Republican account that might have been lost, a powerful Senate chairman said Thursday, vowing to subpoena those documents if the administration fails to cough them up.

“They say they have not been preserved. I don’t believe that!” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy shouted from the Senate floor.

“You can’t erase e-mails, not today. They’ve gone through too many servers,” said Leahy, D-Vt. “Those e-mails are there, they just don’t want to produce them. We’ll subpoena them if necessary.”

Like I read somewhere else… I’m sure that the folks in the intelligence community would love to help on this issue. They’ve got tons of experience recovering “lost” email apparently.

One other thing: Where’s the outrage over government abuse and misconduct? Usually some of our conservative pals love nothing better than pointing out how their TAX DOLLARS are being wasted by government, and I can’t think of any better example than this.

President Bush Looking for Someone to Run His Wars, Other Than Himself that Is

Being President is hard work!

White House considers war overseer.

The White House is considering naming a high-powered official to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and report directly to President Bush and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. - AP

You mean someone to run the wars other than the person we elect every four years?

I have to wonder if President Bush hired someone to run the state of Texas when he was Governor there too?
