Milwaukee County Executive Isn’t the Only Roadblock to Comprehensive Transit Plan for Milwaukee

June 5th, 2007

The Journal Sentinel has an interesting editorial column today that puts the blame for the lack of any movement regarding transit in Milwaukee County squarely on the shoulders of Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker:

…Walker needlessly narrows the local transit debate and options when most other cities already have embraced light rail or similar guided systems in their transit plans. -

While it’s certainly true that County Executive Walker is holding Milwaukee County back from joining other major American cities that already deliver fast, reliable, and affordable transit options to their citizens, a certain amount of blame also falls at the feet of certain members of the County Board who have only enabled Walker’s “fingers in ears while singing la-la-la-la” approach to anything regarding a comprehensive transit plan for Milwaukee County.

Meanwhile, the citizens of Milwaukee County and surrounding counties miss out on all the benefits that a comprehensive and progressive mass transit plan provide. For the sake of the economic future of Milwaukee County, residents need to put pressure on those County Supervisors who enable Walker’s bad behavior.

Top Bush Administration Official Going to Prison

So long Scooter:

Former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Tuesday for lying and obstructing the CIA leak investigation.

If you read any conservative weblogs, you’ll no doubt have discovered the talking points regarding this case about how Libby didn’t commit any “real” crime and the special prosecutor was on a political witch hunt. While they may choose not to accept reality, Scooter won’t when he goes to Federal prison to serve his term.

It’s also interesting how many conservatives are outright calling for his pardon by Pres. Bush, some even demanding it. I’m curious how the President is going to explain his eventual pardon of Libby. He was convicted by a jury on overwhelming evidence and is now paying the price. Is the President just going to say that none of that matters and that any convicted felon who’s done enough political favors for the administration gets off the hook?
