Long time readers, some of whom were at our wedding, may know that last Friday the 25th of July, Jenny and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. Thanks to one of my sisters who offered to take our kids and dog for the weekend, we were able to get away for a few days to Jamaica to celebrate and enjoy our first “solo” vacation in as many years.
It was a wonderful time, although not as much as we would have liked to spend in such a wonderful place as Negril, Jamaica. I did get the chance to partake in some cliff diving though:
While the location from which I jumped looked reasonable from the water below, it did take some coaxing, in the form of chants screaming “DO IT! DO IT!” from those below, to take the plunge from 40 feet above the water.
We’ve never been much of the kind of couple who does “the resort thing”, but after actually doing it, and the level of care that the Couples resort we stayed at provided for us, it’s definitely something we’ll be doing in the future.
Ya mon!

I live in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI with my wife Jen, our daughter Emerson, and son Carter.

Five years already? WOW! seems like just yesterday in a little bar in lovely Oshvegas…………..
Congratulations on your anniversary!
Pam and I went to Jamaica about 7 years ago and stayed in Ocho Rios at a Sandals resort.
The people there were great and had some interesting stories to tell. We pretty much did touristy stuff, but did a few excursions away from the resort.
On the cliff jumping, there used to be an ex-quarry down in Racine were you could jump from about 30 to 40 feet into the water. I don’t know if they still let people do that, but if you want to try it again without going all the way to Jamaica, you can look into it.
A belated congrats to you two! (family stuff caused me to miss the exact day.) I’m so glad you two were able to get away….together. I think it’s fun to play tourist sometimes. It’s ALWAYS fun in my book to play the game “spot the americanski.” Happy Anniversary and here’s to many many more! Love, Marybeth and my Dan, too.
P.S. I remember that summer days in Lake Park and South Shore Pavilion like it was yesterday. Gerber daisies, beautiful white flowing gown, and The Newlywed Game. Who won that, by the way? LOL
