Americans Don’t Support the ‘Nuclear Option’

Published by Daniel Cody at 7:03 am under Politics

66% of Americans must be against ‘people of faith’ if you buy into the GOP argument for fillibustering some of Bush’s judicial nominees. Or, maybe two thirds of Americans just don’t think it’s right to change rules in the middle of the game when it suits one party or another… ABC/Washington Post 4/21-24 Poll:

Would you support or oppose changing Senate rules to make it easier for the Republicans to confirm Bush’s judicial nominees?

Support 26
Oppose 66

While I would personally oppose such rule-changing, I think it’s ridiculous that it says “Republicans” and not “Congress” in the question.

Polls are often as manipulative as the ones taking them. Case in point–there was a poll taken a few weeks ago that asked people if they supported Bush’s Social Security plan. A striking majority said no. Later in the poll, the same people were asked if they would support certain types of changes to the system, which coincidentally matched the Bush plan. A significantly larger, albeit still a minority, of people said they would. The only difference was that Bush’s name was left out.

That’s the problem with politics today. People can’t see beyond the elephants and the asses. Everybody knows work has to be done on Social Security, but know one wants to admit it on the other team’s watch.

Did you hear about the bill Harry Reid proposed in 1983 yet?
