An Amazing Night in Milwaukee and Across America

It’s truly a historic day. I can now use the prefix “President Elect” Obama instead of just “Senator” Obama. While some results are trickling in even at this late hour, it’s clearly a night for Democrats to celebrate across America.

While I’ll have much more to say about today’s events after a bit of sleep, I think it’s also important to acknowledge the victories we had here in Milwaukee.

Specifically, something I personally put a massive amount of time and energy in to, the Milwaukee County sales tax referendum, passed by a decent amount. It says a lot about what a group of hard working individuals without a ton of money can do in this day and age. We faced huge obstacles and overcame them.

Again, a historic day for America.

Dan I have to say the passing of the sales tax referendum was impressive. I do hope though that the transit supporters get behind the efforts to create a regional transit authority.

Unlike Republicans, your party’s leash is quite short, because you’re more likely to pass things that the American people don’t like. At least the GOP cuts your taxes when they screw everything else up.

This will be a fascinating two years. We as a nation are a little tired of hearing “with us or for the terrorists” and the religious loons. If Obama is as smart as he sounds, and if he can keep your party’s whackjobs in line, this could lead to a realignment.

If, on the other hand, he allows an immediate overreach, then 2010 is going to be a repeat of 1994.

I hope for the former, I expect the latter.
