Another Great Thing About the Return of Spring…

…I can start riding our (somewhat) new scooter back and forth to work again.

I recently calculated the savings from riding the scooter to work vs. taking a car, and quite frankly it’s shocking. Taking into account the cost of gas at $3.75/gallon and the cost to park on campus per day, I’m saving about $10.00 per day by riding the scooter into work.

Even though I can only take it in to work twice a week because I drop off and pick up the kids from daycare, that’s still $80.00 per month. Nothing to sneeze at.

For the record a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Milwaukee today is $3.70/gallon. Oil hits another record high at $117/barrel.

How does a scooter save you on parking? Maybe I’m missing something :)

How much of your daily $10.00 savings is gas and how much is parking?

…and be sure to wear a helmet and keep off 794.

Janet, the scooter we drive doesn’t require a special permit to park, because it can be parked with the bicycles. Parking for fac/staff at UWM is 0.55/minute.

Smitty, it’s about $5.50 of gas per day. The car I take the kids in gets about 17 mpg in the city under good conditions.

And absolutely about the helmet. I bought one even before the scooter was shipped to us.
