10:50am update: They win!

Within the hour, we should know whether or not the Milwaukee County Parks department has won the prestegious “Gold Medal” from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. The award is being given out at the National Park and Recreation Association Congress in Salt Lake City this morning, and Parks Director Sue Black and several of her staff have made the trip out to Salt Lake with high hopes.

Good luck to them! As soon as I know I’ll post the winner.

The other park systems in contention for the NPRA’s Gold Medal award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management are:

  • City of Bakersfield, California
  • City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department, North Carolina
  • Parks and Community Services Department, Fort Worth, Texas

We should know within the hour which park system will win the award, and no matter what, the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture deserves a big tip of the hat for the fantastic work they do in managing and maintaining our public park land.
