That's just politics for you. To win, you have to appear proactive, confident, and even righteous in the eys of the public. This may mean that you have to commit to a decision that turns out bad in retrospect and then justify it as the only logical course of action even when there's no logic to it. To concede that you were wrong is to lose, so Bush is doing everything he can to convince people that the war in Iraq is the Right, True, and Proper Course.

I imagine he must realize by now how futile the argument is, even if he can't admit it without losing the election for his entire party.

On a side note, I've been frantically attempting to contact you about a problem with my website's FTP. I'd be very grateful if you could address this issue as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Stephen W.

The description is much more appropiate for the republicans. Bush's administration has done a great job for terrorists by their inept handling of Iraq after the initial invasion. They are generating lots of new recruits and providing a good training ground for them.

He has absolutely nothing to lose by saying it. And it isn't a new argument for him, either. This statement has been made many times; his is simply one of the first times he's said it plainly, without relying on insinuation.
