Chinese testing lasers on American satellites

Published by Scott Cody at 2:59 pm under Politics

Dan doesn’t get much into international politics on this site (other than Iraq, of course), but this bears mentioning.

The Chinese military has secretly targeted American satellites with lasers to disable their surveillance capabilities. I often wonder why more attention isn’t paid to the growing threat that the Chinese pose to U.S. security and economic interests. Iraq, Iran, North Korea… combined they are nothing next to the potential foe that exists in the land of 1.4 billion people. If there is any world power capable of mounting a serious challenge to the United States in the next 20 years, it is China. As to whether China is willing to do so, there a bit of circumstantial evidence that says yes.

It is reported that the Bush administration has known that this was occurring for a few years. It was kept secret, however, in the hopes that China could be persuaded to join us the wars of the Middle East. Keeping this activity a secret can only embolden the Chinese government.

If things continue like this, it’s only a matter of time before China can launch a successful invasion and take over control of large parts of this country.

…I for one would like to welcome our new Chinese masters, and look forward to serving them in whatever capacity they so brilliantly decide. :(

They can do it in so many ways, too. First, destroy our currency (turns out they hold quite a bit of it). Then, watch as the U.S. stock markets fall (or, crash). Next, disrupt American communications, both through satellites and the internet. Not a single shot fired, and already our country is in a state of panic.

Once all that is taken care of, then they might use some of that military equipment they’ve been stockpiling, whether it was bought from Russia or they built it on their own.

I wish I had a link, but I saw a transcript of a speech given by a Chinese general a few years ago. He flat-out said that China plans to attack the United States within the next two decades. And why not? It isn’t as though we are the only country in the world that desires to be a hegemon.

While the currency and communication attack is a good start. You forgot abut the other vulnerabilities of America.
-An attack against the American agricultural industry, probably through hoof and mouth disease and a derivative of mad cow.
-Disrupt and reduce American industrial capabilities (they’ve been at this for years)
-Release a biological weapon, that, while only fatal in 2% of cases, would be highly contagious and capable of overwhelming the medical system (like SARS, maybe)

The fact that last year China and India, two historical enemies, agreed to a non-agression treaty, removed one of their final hurdles to expansion in other directions.
