Clark Gives it a Go

Published by Daniel Cody at 11:01 am under Politics

Gen. Wes Clark threw his hat into the ring for the Democratic nomination to run against Bush in the 2004 election today. Pretty interesting move.. Me and Jenny were both thinking he’d team up as VP with one of the more established canidates like Dean or Kerry. We also both agreed that Clark would make a heck of a ticket no matter who he ran with. So it’s pretty interesting to think he can do it on his own, especially at this late of a stage in the game.

The Wisconsin for Clark group is trying to get people together for a bus trip to hear Gen. Clark speak in Iowa City this Thursday, for a cost of $30 per ticket if anyone in the area is interested.

We’ll probably just wait for him to come to Milwaukee to hear what he has to say.. I think we’re both still on board with Dean, and now we’re trying to think of who would make a good running mate for him since Wes is on his own now. How much would a Howard Dean / Carol Moseley Braun ticket kick ass?

Well it would certainly kick my ass.

In reading up on Dean I discovered that the guy supports and is supported by AIPAC the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee. Basically this is the Zionist’s Lobbying force in Washington. You won’t be able to follow the money though since AIPAC doesn’t usually directly fund candidates, it just recommends or does not recommend people running for public office based on just how much they are willing to sell the public interest for support of Israel.

Dean might be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I am not very intersted in a candidate who wants to be this liberal on everything, but gives me the same crap regarding Palestine that I get from others.

Then again, if it weren’t for that he’d get my vote too. :)

Yeah, he definitely has no Roadmap for Peace worked out. And, as we all know, it has worked out!

Can’t we all just get along? You’re both wrong. Knock down the wall. Stop settlement. Work out a land agreement. Disable Israel’s nuclear arsenal (which they might have or might not — they aren’t sure — or something). Have the leaders of each nation get a tattoo of the other nation’s name inside of a heart on their tricep). Happy dance, etc.

It’s all about democracy, you see. No democracy has ever waged war against another democracy. Oh, except for that when that Hitler guy got elected. We just won’t call that one a democracy.

Here. Have a nice big plate of American Triumphalism.

i dunno… i think clark looks pretty damn good actually. i managed to catch one of his townhall meetings from new hampshire on cspan a few weeks ago and was floored by the presence he has in a crowd.
he’s not perfect, but who is?

i am still bothered by dean’s co-opting of wellstone’s catch phrase in his attempt to align himself with the oft-ignored progressive s(”i’m from the democratic side of the Democratic party”). he is more of a traditional dem than a true progressive and using wellstone’s words makes it seem as if he’s trying to pull support from the memory of a truly remarkable man. he’s not as grassroots, doesn’t offer nearly the same support for labor and the everyman that wellstone built his reputation off of.

i guess i’m still in a very much of a wait and see phase right now. as i told jen a few weeks ago, i love dennis kucinich but don’t want to see him give up as head of the progressive caucus in the house. we need to keep the support we’ve got in the house, not lose it in what will be a failed attempt at more power.
