Conflicting Standards For Porn From Journal Sentinel

It’s funny how on the same day the Journal Sentinel is ripping into a Republican State Senator for owning stock in several adult companies, their website has a giant ad promoting a Harley anniversary party being sponsored by Silk Exotic strip club and featuring porn star Jenna Jameson, wet t-shirt contests, and other “adult entertainment”.

    Dan:

    A few observations…

    1) Short post, but objective - Nice!
    2) The J/S is called the “Urinal/Sentinel” for a reason
    3) Typical sensationlist journalism from our failing and worthless newspaper.

Good catch, Dan. I read the article about Senator Cowles but missed the strip club ad. Let’s just say that consistency is not a Journal forte. There should be nothing wrong with either Cowles’ investments or the Journal running the strip club ad. But, as Michael Corleone once said, “We’re all part of the same hypocrisy senator.”

Smitty, agreed. I don’t know when the newspaper got into the business of shaming people about their own choices. I mean if you’re going to go that route, why not delve into the investment portfolios of all public officials to see who owns stock in bomb factories or liquor distributors?

Both are morally objectionable to some people, but why should the newspaper be trying to dictate it’s definition of morality into it’s reporting?

Rhetorical question, but you get the point.

I don’t get the point. Journalist calls state senator, senator claims he did not know and says he is going to divest immediately. Didn’t the state senator make the story here? Had he said there is nothing wrong, wouldn’t that have greatly diminished the story? Also, come on, this is Rob Cowles who is constantly holding himself up on a high moral plane and looking down at everyone else and the choices they make and criticizing them no matter if it was intentional or not. He got caught, lied about what he knew and got spanked publicly. He is unopposed and nothing will happen as a result and next week he will be publicly shaming Democrats again for the bad things they supposedly did and reporters will go along with it. I have no sympathy for him.

Hey Dan, I agree with you!!

I don’t know anything about Senator Cowles or his politics and could care less. But investing in a legitimate business is morally no different than taking advertising money from a legitimate business. Both are legal, above board transactions, even though some people may consider the companies’ “product” unsavory.

Are Cowles and the Journal hypocrites? Maybe, and in different ways, but it’s minor leagure stuff.
