Crime is Crime No Matter Which Ethnic Festival or Community Celebration it Happens At.
First off, the man who was pulled from his car – apparently at random – yesterday and beaten by a mob deserves sympathy from the community and all the best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery. The mob that committed the brutal act deserves the nothing less than an aggressive prosecution and absolute justice.
That said, once again the entire right wing media machine in Wisconsin has found an issue that they’re using in their continuing attempt to make inner city Milwaukee and anything having to do with the African American community appear in a bad light. They’ve got a bunch of thugs on camera beating a white man, and that’s just the type of thing that re-enforces their narrative that the City is no place for decent folks, and everyone that cares about their kids should pick up and join them in the absolute squeeky clean safety of the suburbs.
And to their point that this crime that happened near an African American festival reflects poorly on the entire African American community, I’d simply ask if they would be willing to apply the same misguided logic to every fight and beating that happens at any of Milwaukee’s ethnic festivals during the summer months.
When a large group of thugs break the law at Germanfest or Polishfest or Italianfest or Festa Mexicana, does that indict the entire ethnic group that happens to be celebrating the event in relative peace and frivolity? Of course it doesn’t, nor does the morality of the entire African American community deserve to be dragged through the mud by right wing media and bloggers throughout Wisconsin.

Hey, I missed the link to the video of Stosh and Joe leaving Polishfest kicking in car windows, punching a police officer in the face (which required multiple stiches), jumping on the backs of cars and .. oh yeah .. kicking a man (I couldn’t tell what race from the video) in the BACK of the head knocking him silly! Could you provide that footage for us all, please?
Pat Kasthurirangaian is the man beaten by the thugs .. he’ll need surgery to repair his broken eye socket. Darn media conspiracy .. I’ll bet Mr. Kasthurirangaianis part of this dastardly plan to make the people leaving the Juneteenth event look like thugs.
The first step to recovery is to admit there is a problem.
What media conspiracy are you talking about? I referenced the right wing media in Milwaukee in my original post, not any sort of conspiracy.
As for the man in question, I think we’re all aware of his injuries, and again, as I said above, wish him a speedy recovery.
As for your point about violence at other festivals, it does in fact happen whether or not there’s a camera there to catch it. if you’ve ever had the unfortunate luck of being around at the end of any festival at the Summerfest grounds, you would get my point about there being violence at almost every ethnic festival.
The African American community aren’t the only racial or ethnic group to be saddled with members of their community who are idiot hoodlums is the point I think no one wants to hear, and I don’t think anyone is having a problem “admitting” that.
you would get my point about there being violence at almost every ethnic festival.
You are comparing the “violence” at the other ethnic festivals to THIS?! Are you serious? You are telling us that you have seen the Italians marching down the streets of Milwaukee plundering whatever is in their path?
“The streets of Milwaukee” may ratchet up the rhetoric, but it’s where the event was held. I have been in the middle of two large groups (15-25 on each side) of thugs on the way out of ethnic festivals as they came toward eachother “DOWN THE STREETS OF SUMMERFEST” and knocked over anyone in their paths, the elderly, women, and children included. It’s not any different.
That’s just one example.
I suppose if something similar had happened at an African American or Latino festival, the right would have been outrage from the right about how “gangs” have clearly taken over Milwaukee and how said festival wasn’t safe for “decent” people anymore, despite how many people didn’t cause problems.
Hey – I was at German Fest this weekend, you should have seen the violence! Did you hear/read about it? It was all over the news .. helicopters caught most of the villains. Oh wait – there were no problems again this year. You can ignore the obvious and continue to believe these festivals have the same violence seen at the Juneteenth celebration, however.
