Yeah well the Constitution also says that for lawsuits over twenty dollars you are entitled to trial by jury, but we've adjusted that... haven't we?

Maybe when that was written they didn't really envision that people would ever sue for more than fifty dollars or that guns would be able to fire hundreds of rounds per minute.

Read our 2ND AMENDMENT rights. It says: FREEDOM TO BEAR ARMS.

It does not say: ...except ones with big clips.

Hunting isn't the only valid reason to have a gun.

Every time the government tries to legislate guns by banning them, they mess it up. For example, the Assault Weapons Ban bans certain caliber guns that "look scary" but leaves alone other guns with the exact same firepower. Further, most fully-automatic guns are illegal, but you can buy a $15 trigger mod to turn any semi into a full automatic without breaking the law.

Guns fall into the class of items which serve a valid purpose but can be dangerous. Beer and liquor is another. Do we ban certain liquors, even though it often leads to violence and/or sexual assault (with a much higher frequency than these gun accidents, I might add)? No.

The existence of these items in the market is necessary, but the existence also causes a harm to society (because undesirables can get ahold of them second-hand).

So, what do we do with liquor and beer and gas (pollution) and ... and ... etc., since their existence in the market harms society? We tax them. We tax them to make up for the harm to society.

Guns are necessary in the market because they serve valid purposes. The fact that they are in the market harms society. Therefore they should be taxed equal to the harm it causes.

I can GUARANTEE you that this tax would be a better, more efficient enforcer per dollar spent than ANY government agency. And you have the added benefit of making up for the harm that guns' existence in the market causes to society (you know, instead of creating even more harm to society by using its general tax money to fund the enforcement of a ban).

The SKS is not an assault rifle, it's a semi automatic .. there is a big distinction.

The SKS has 10 rounds, this guy got a 20 round clip after market - what's your point?

You are correct, magazines were limited to 10 rounds by the assault weapons ban, but it takes all of 3 seconds to swap magazines. Besides, how do you know when this guy bought the 20 round clip? They were available during the ban.

I'm upset by this story, too, but you seem to think it was the gun's fault somehow and restricting use would prevent this and it won't.

I realize they never banned the SKS's themselves, but the 20 round clip was banned if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately, the AWB did not actually even ban assault weapons. Rather, it banned to manufacture of certain weapons. Possession of weapons manufactured before the ban was never prohibited.

See Wikipedia on AWB

Futhermore, the SKS weapon used in the recent killings was not even covered by the AWB.
