Firefox on the Move

Everyone’s favorite web browser, Mozilla Firefox has been making huge inroads in the last year to peoples desktop PC’s. Whether it’s because of IE’s terrible security and constand threat of viruses, or they’re sick of being bombarded with pop-up ads and spyware, or because Firefox is just a great browser, no one seems to know, but according to ZDnet, the percentage of people using it is on the rise.

In October, 19 percent of visitors to ZDnet UK used a version of Firefox, up from 9 percent in February. This is not only great news for users of web browsers, but for developers as well since Firefox is a ton more standards compliant than IE is. In fact, if you look at my weblog in Firefox, you might be surprised how much better it looks than in IE :)

So go download it today and keep the percentage of people using Firefox increasing! :)

I think they’re doing a wonderful job leveraging the desire that web developers and MS-haters have to get people to use Firefox. spreadfirefox.com is an excellent example. Everywhere I go on campus I see firefox popping up on lab/library computers, and I have witnessed a few people complain when there is only IE on computers (usually in ‘computer lab’ classrooms).

I just did some web development for a customer who replaced IE with Firefox on all the workstations! It made it much easier to do the development (CSS 2 compliance is light years better).

Firefox is much easier for IE users to switch to.

It’s good to see the tide changing a little bit at a time.
