Former Rep. Mark Neumann Not Backing Down in GOP Race for Governor Against Scott Walker

In an interview with WUWM  today, former Congressman Mark Neumann signaled very clearly that he’s intending to run as the Republican candidate for Governor in 2010.

Today, former first district congressman Mark Neumann told WUWM that he’s seriously considering running for the post.

“We are working very hard to get ready to get into the race sometime between now and October. At this point it looks like all systems are go and we’ll be making some sort of an official announcement between now and October,” Neumann said. – WUWM

Don’t know how you make it much clearer than that. Curious to see how the Walker campaign answers.

Probably petulantly. They know, you see, he can’t win a race unless he’s unopposed (and yes, I’m including the last general election in that statement; the Dems didn’t field a real candidate).

I think there will be other canidates as well. More the merrier and the ultimate winner will kick Doyle’s butt.

There will be more. A gentleman from Appleton has already announced he’ll be running for the Republican nomination, but can’t seem to get the media to take notice.
Mark Todd is at this point the only announced candidate running:

And I see he did the right thing and changed his logo to be a little less “Obamaish”.

Sorry, Corey, but things are going to be stacked against Doyle.
I think in 2010, there will be a huge anti-incumbent vote- no matter what party. I think a lot of Dems will get thrown out and a lot of GOP as well.
In addition, there will be more of the anti-tax revolt, especially in the Spring, where people who thought they were going to get tax relief from this stimlus money they are getting now, but will get a lower refund or no refund at all.
Finally, Doyle is not that popular in the State right now, so he may not even run. I can picture a scenario where he is picked to be a cabinet member or czar of the Obama adminstration.

If he was going to be picked as a Cabinet member, it would have happened by now.

  7. Matt S. says:

He could be a fourth or fifth string choice for a cabinet or czar position since Obama can’t seem to field candidates on the first try that can survive even the minimum amount of scrutiny. Hope he’s paid his taxes!

Things will be stacked against Doyle, for sure, but he’s a politically savvy (that’s putting it nicely) individual that has a knack for plowing through that stack. The impending fight between Walker and Neumann will certainly help Doyle, as they end up beating the you-know-what out of each other. Whoever comes out of that Republican primary will be battered and will have created a ton of fodder for the Doyle campaign (way to go WI Republican’s!).

I also think their is still serious trepidation, by the electorate, to vote in Republicans; with that and everything else the Republican Party of Wisconsin is doing, I believe we’ll see Doyle in the Governor’s Mansion for another term…..Unfortunately.
