Great Moments in Milwaukee Right Wing Talk Radio

Every once in a while if you’re lucky, you can catch a moment on Milwaukee right wing talk radio that really captures it’s true essence. I present one of the most amusing, yet seriously delivered, statements from this morning’s Charlie Sykes show as he talks about declining of network TV:

  • By Dave Reid, October 22, 2008 @ 5:42 pm

    haha that is funny

  • By capper, October 22, 2008 @ 8:34 pm

The dead neurons in some people’s gray matter can be mind-boggling.

  • By Sean, October 23, 2008 @ 12:18 pm

    Capper,

Funny you say that….I suspect you don’t have the same disdain or condescension for people that think the NY Times/Washington Post/LA Times/NBC/ABC/CBS are “fair”.

  • By Dan Cody, October 23, 2008 @ 3:33 pm

That’s because outside of Fox News watchers the conspiracy theory about the ELITE LEFT COAST LIBERAL MEDIA is just that, a conspiracy theory among Fox News fans.

Most reasonable people would call those media outlets “fair” and would not call Fox News the same. That’s why it’s so ironic…

  • By Smitty, October 23, 2008 @ 4:22 pm

    Dan,

    Oh, the irony…

You, and other “reasonable people”, think that the MSM is “fair” because their reportage and bias coincides with your ideological beliefs.

Fox News is biased, but not more than any other media outlet. It’s the peculiar political slant of their bias that outrages liberals

No “reasonable” person thinks Keith Olbermann, Katie Couric and Chris Matthews are “fair” unless, of course, they share their political prejudices.

    crapper,

    Count your neurons.

  • By Sean, October 23, 2008 @ 5:07 pm

Dan, you are kidding, right? Why don’t you take a look at this and see if people think those media outlets are fair…. just to point out two glaring statistics in this article: 1) 50% of those polled think reporters are trying to help Obama win, where only 11% believe that for McCain, 2) Only 26% believe reporters offer unbiased coverage….considering the majority of the media is NOT Fox News, I would say that “those media outlets” are in fact not fair - but keep believing that they are, maybe someday it’ll come true.

  • By Dan Cody, October 23, 2008 @ 10:14 pm

Fox News is biased, but not more than any other media outlet.

That, my friend, is simply ridiculous and you know it. You can cite individuals on a network all you want that may, and I say may, go against your way of thinking. But at the end of the day you’re comparing individuals on a network to an entire network.

This is the point I made in my previous comment. Fox News is widely seen as nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Republican Party. And if that’s what they want to do, rock on. But to try to suggest that they’re just the equal counterbalance to the rest of the “LIBERAL ELITE LEFTYS” is silly to put it mildly.

The caller that I posted the audio of made that perfectly clear. When she’s looking for coverage that is “positive, positive for McCain and negative, negative against Obama”, she turns to Fox News.

I mean, I hear where you’re coming from, but it just doesn’t hold water.

  • By Sean, October 24, 2008 @ 8:27 am

Dan, that’s your opinion and you, of course, are entitled to it, but the media outlets that I named (among others) are just as biased towards the left as Fox is to the right. I am not comparing individuals, I am comparing the outlet (newspaper, TV Station, etc) as a whole. I would agree with you that Fox News is biased towards the right, but the fact that you can’t see that the NY Times, et all, are not as equally biased towards the left tells me something. To then refer to that way of thinking as “silly to put it mildly”, tells me even more.

  • By Dan Cody, October 24, 2008 @ 10:07 am

I do think comparing CBS/ABC/NBC etc to Fox News is silly. I think most people would agree with that too.

  • By Smitty, October 24, 2008 @ 1:34 pm

    Dan,

View MSNBC and tell me that it’s not totally in the tank for Obama. Olbermann and Matthews are just the most egregious example of its bias.

It’s odd that you can see the outrageous bias of Fox but, somehow, the equally outrageous bias of the other networks eludes you. Probably because their bias coincides with yours.

Still, if Obama is elected, you can look forward to the cleansing of Fox, in fact Obama is subtly threatening it.

So you’re going to prove your point about how the “liberal media” is biased by linking to a site that has Documenting and exposing the Liberal Political Agenda of the New York Times as it’s slogan?

Sorry, but I still don’t buy your argument. Once again, you’re back to comparing individuals on a network to an entire network. Something to think about with regard to those specific individuals:

Simply because they didn’t rah-rah the run up to the Iraq war and don’t agree with Republicans doesn’t make them biased. That’s the whole point I’m making! The position you’re taking is that if someone doesn’t share your own biased views, or that of an entire network, then they’re the ones who are biased.

  • By Smitty, October 24, 2008 @ 4:08 pm

    Dan,

Stange talk from a guy who has cited Media Matters to prove his points.

The point I’m making and (which you refuse to comprehend) is people are comfortable with networks, newspapers and talk show hosts that share their views and they tend to see those views as unbiased and objective. You can see the bias of Fox and Milwaukee’s “right wing” talk show hosts but you cannot see the bias of MSNBC, CCN, et al. Why? Because you share their bias.

BTW, here’s the actual NY Times Magazine article,
the Obama quote regarding Fox is toward the end.
That right wing blog is not fabricating it.

Why do you think it’s silly? The reason I ask is because your assertion that most people think it’s silly, is wrong. Not slightly wrong, but galactically wrong. “Nearly two-thirds of those online respondents who detected bias in the media (64%) said the media leans left, while slightly more than a quarter of respondents (28%) said they see a conservative bias on their TV sets and in their column inches.” (Zogby poll) Here’s another portion of that poll: “While 97% of Republicans surveyed said the media are liberal, two-thirds of political independents feel the same, but fewer than one in four independents (23%) said they saw a conservative bias.” I’d pay close attention to the statistic of 2/3rds of independents feeling the media is biased to the left.

Who dominates the media? ABC/CBS/NBC, NY Times, etc, etc, etc. How many polls/research do you need to help you realize that those entities are in fact as biased (probably more), for the left, than Fox is on the right? Dan, the MSM is LIBERAL. I see it, and almost 2/3rds of the U.S. population sees it. The question is when are people like you going to?!?

  • By Sean, October 28, 2008 @ 2:44 pm

Still believe that “most people” agree with you on the bias in the media? Hope not, because here’s ANOTHER poll done, and there are some stunning statistics….. http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1003/joe-the-plumber Please tell me you’ll take your donkey glasses off long enough to concede that you are wrong on this issue…..I mean, hell 62% of Democrats think the media wants Obama to win. Better yet, take a look at the last 5 elections. No Republican has had over 25% favorable media coverage - according to “most people”.
