Hardly Comforting

Published by Daniel Cody at 4:15 pm under Personal, Politics

In case you live in a hole here in the U.S. you may have missed a few big news stories over the past year.

  • D.C. sniper still killing innocent victims, still on the loose
  • U.S. government pushing for war with Iraq
  • The transportation industries (passenger rail, airlines) are relying on goverment bailouts to stay in business
  • Recent corporate scandels have cost U.S. taxpayers more than $200 billion in lost investment savings, jobs, pension losses and tax revenue, according to a report issued by the No More Enrons coalition
  • International terrorism has killed hundreds in SouthEast Asia and abroad
  • 1.5 million people have lost their jobs in America
  • Forest fires consume hundreds of millions of acres in the Western US
  • A 20% drop in the stock market
  • Isrealies and Palestinians are still killing the fuck out of eachother

Just a sampling of what’s been going on recently here, and around the world.

Apparently though, our pres has it all under control, because otherwise he wouldn’t have the time to have been campaigning for Rebuplicans across the country 23% of the days this YEAR. Yes, thats correct: 66 days this year, the person who’s supposed to be helping fix these kinds of messes for the American people has spent time 66 out of 295 days this year on the campaign trail in a year which he himself is not running for office.Sounds pretty bad ehh?

Don’t forget to add in the 100+ days he’s spent so far at his Crawford TX ranch, his private family getaway in Kennebunkport ME, the presidential retreat at Camp David, or his private getaway in the Catoctin Mountains MD either! Yup, things must be running just fine here in the US of A when the president can spend half his year at fundraisers and on vacation! Whew!! Rest easy America, we’ve obviously got nothing to worry about. Now back to the unemployment line!

over here, the first thing i notice about winter (apart from the biting winds and numb face when outside) is the christmas songs in the shops. yep, it had barely turned october when i entered the birthdays card shop to be entertained by the sounds of slade’s merry christmas everyone. it does make me tingle though.
