If This Is Liberation…
Seven unarmed women and children killed yesterday in Iraq. “Our soldiers on the ground have an absolute right to defend themselves.” General Peter Pace, vice-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “(they) absolutely did the right thing”. Defending ourselves is one thing, and I understand the concerns which the recent car bombing brought, but shooting a .50 caliber machine gun into a van full of women and childen?
Bush said today, “We will not stop, we will not relent until your country is free”, and I wonder if he means ‘free’ of innocent civilians. After all, once they’re all gone, we can really let the whoop ass loose on the real bad guys.
The Wash. Post has a more accurate account of this situation…” That order was immediately followed by the loud reports of 25mm cannon fire from one or more of the platoon’s Bradleys. About half a dozen shots were heard in all.
“Cease fire!” Johnson yelled over the radio. Then, as he peered into his binoculars from the intersection on Highway 9, he roared at the platoon leader, “You just [expletive] killed a family because you didn’t fire a warning shot soon enough!”
The newspapers are fine with talking about the deaths of innocent civilians, but think their audience aren’t ready to handle an [expletive]…
