Impressions From Wednesday GOP Convention Speeches
The biggest applause lines of the night from the GOP delegates seemed to be when Rudy Guiliani and Gov. Palin mocked Sen. Obama’s work as a “community organizer”. Delegates really seemed to eat that and Rudy’s long tirade up though. Is representing laid off manufacturing employees something to be mocked though?
The “liberal media” jabs also seemed to be back in full force tonight from both speakers, and again, the insiders of the GOP eat that up, but folks watching at home… I doubt it.
Rudy says it’s “no time for on the job training.” Did he forget who’s following him?
To sum up, a couple of good speeches for the GOP base. But most people tuning in who aren’t the base and will decide the election may have been a bit turned off. What is she talking about with the reference to “Greek columns?” I can imagine someone saying. Also, while Gov. Palin seemed to take a lot of shots at the Democrats, she never answered the question of why she should be the next Vice President.
I wish I had a clearer post to write, but was busy writing impressions down as I watched the speeches.

I thought both Rudy and Palin’s speeches were exceptional partisan convention speeches. Each of them got their delegates fired up very effectively. I also felt my blood start to boil a few times, which means they did their jobs.
I’ll say this - whether one agrees with the content of her speech or not, this was one helluva way for Palin to introduce herself on the national political stage. Even though some of the delegates jumped in a bit too early with the scripted applause and nearly killed the effectiveness of what was supposed to be the line of the night (”I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.”), she still hit a political grand slam, in my opinion. It was a very entertaining speech, and her occasionally passive-aggressive, sarcastic delivery will surely score the Republicans some big points amongst the undecideds who may have been watching.
Now the GOP just has to hope John McCain doesn’t suck all the life out of the party when he takes the stage.

Aaaaah, yes, the Pit Bull with Lipstick. She performed well. She did electrify the conventioneers. That was her job. She done it well.
I thought her speech was acidic, sarcastically mocking, dividingly negative, juvenile, and offensive. Full of biting one-liners and ugly attacks of humor. She did a good job covering up her deficiencies with that blustering attack. But then, don’t listent to me, I’m a proud Democrat.
Let the facts (lol) of Palin’s speech speak for themselves.
