No cell phone, no twitter, no blog, no email, no texts.. Being “off the grid” sure can recharge you, but after 12 hours of driving yesterday, it was good to be back home. We had a great 4th of July in Northern Minnesota with family and friends that was blessed with perfect weather.
- I just heard about Sarah Palin resigning as Governor or Alaska this morning, but wow. The Palin train wreck express continues full speed ahead. I don’t know what’s more silly. Her continued attempts to be relevant or her supporters come up with every excuse in the book to justify what amounts to political suicide. More on this later, but like I said, wow.
- Also from the “you leave for a few days” category, pro football player Steve McNair was found dead this weekend. That’s sad news. He was an inspiration to many and one of the greatest college football quarterbacks ever. To my knowledge, he was the only division I-AA player in modern history to have a legit shot at the Heisman Trophy. He finished third in 1993 behind Rashaan Salaam and Ki-Jana Carter, two players who he easily surpassed as a pro.
- Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder will be representing the Milwaukee Brewers at the 2009 All Star game in St. Louis next week. Both are deserving and will hopefully light it up for the second half of the season. In an unexpected but welcome ticketing snafu, I’ll be attending 4 of the next 5 Brewers games this week and hopefully can continue the streak where if I’m in attendance, the Brewers win. Would be nice to head into the break up a few games.
I live in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI with my wife Jen, our daughter Emerson, and sons Carter and Colton.

The Palin move is puzzling. She is either avoiding a scandal or trying to focus on a presidential bid. Frankly, I’m not interested in seeing either one happen and I really do think that if the left would end their obsession with her, she would be allowed to fade into irrelevance.
Wake me when she becomes relevant again. If MSNBC wasn’t talking about her, no one would be.
Can’t believe Gallardo and Hoffman were passed up.
The Brewers are a somewhat above average team desperately in need of consistent pitching and a stonger batting line up if they want to succeed. Losing three of four to the Cubs (the Cubs! I hate the Cubs and their stupid fans) was a real blow. I can only hope that the next six games leading to the All Star break are not a disaster. It’s going to be a rough week, the Brewers need to bounce back.
Anyhow, Braun and Fielder have earned the spots on the All Star team.
For the short term most of Palin’s relevance might reside in GOP fundraising.
And as for the Brewers, it is great to see them be as relevant as they are again this year. Parra and Bush are going to have to pick up a lot of the slack when/if they return.
