Off a few other blogs, the ever changing John McCain speaks on abortion rights.
1999:
“[C]ertainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.
2007:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain, looking to improve his standing with the party’s conservative voters, said Sunday the court decision that legalized abortion should be overturned.
“I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned,” the Arizona senator told about 800 people in South Carolina, one of the early voting states.AP
Remember that the media has different standards for Republicans if confusing contradictions like this pop up: when a Democratic candidate admits he was wrong about a vote which was backed with dubious intelligence he’s a “FLIP-FLOPPER”.
When Republican John McCain changes his mind and promises to overturn abortion rights in an obvious attempt to kowtow to ultra-conservative voters, he’s a “STRAIGHT TALKING MAVERICK”!
I live in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI with my wife Jen, our daughter Emerson, and sons Carter and Colton.

McCain’s biggest flip flop was changing to supporting Bush.
I realize that it would have hurt his status in the republican party to have continued to critize Bush after Bush won the nomination. But it did show that he wanted to be president in the future more than he wanted to do the right thing now.
The funny thing is that his hard right turn, pandering to the religous right, and support of the escalation has killed him in the polls. He’s trailing Rudy by more than ever (30 points) in head to head polling.
I don’t know how is advisors are keeping their jobs to be honest, but I’m glad people are seeing through the BS.
This exemplifies the problem with most politicians. Their number one goal is election (or re-election). Issues are secondary, have no doubt about it.
When the goal of a politician is to appeal to voters, that person’s policy stances cannot be trusted.
