Same Old Republicans Launch New Group To Sell Same Tired Ideas

In an effort to repair their broken brand, Republicans are launching a new group that will travel the Country to get people excited about the party again!

The only catch is it will be the same old people selling the same tired ideas.

Coming soon to a battleground state near you: a new effort to revive the image of the Republican Party and to counter President Obama’s characterization of Republicans as “the party of ‘no.’”

CNN has learned that the new initiative, called the National Council for a New America, will be announced Thursday.

It will involve an outreach by an interesting mix of GOP officials, ranging from 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain to Jeb Bush… – CNN.com

McCain, Bush, Romney, Jindal, Boehner… What a fresh new cast of characters!

What I want to know is why rising star wonder boy fiscal wizard new face of the party Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan isn’t mentioned anywhere? How can this be the new face of the same party without it’s “rising star”?! Don’t Jeb Bush and John McCain know that the news desk of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel did a three page lovefest of Ryan in Sunday’s paper?

    Romney, Jindal and J. Bush are fresh faces. Boehner not so much and McCain?????? What the hell is he doing with this bunch.

    I didn’t see any criticism of the ideas they’ll be peddling. Is your beef just that it’s not all new people? Sounds a little like when the right whines about Obama’s cabinet not showing much change and the left rolls their eyes. Can we agree that we’ll never get change with Republicans and Democrats, yet?

    Tell me, what “new ideas” have the Democrats offered us?

    There you go again Dan, slinging those lefty talking points and clichés. It seems to me that most Democrats do not seem to be critical thinkers. Instead, they simply repeat the very same taglines that the Democratic leadership put out. I always find it so amusing when I question a liberal to expand on and explain the ‘talking point of the day’ that they just threw out there. More often than not, they get an exasperated look on their face, shake their head and shoulders, and then say with an annoyed tone, “Well . . . .” and then go on to repeat the very same talking point. At this point, I’m thinking, “let’s really irritate this liberal”. So, I ask them the very same questions again . . . and again, until they answer or just walk away.

    However, being a critical thinker, I do want to ask you two questions:

    1. EXACTLY, what ideas were proposed in the GOP’s National Council for a New America?
    2. EXACTLY, what “same tired ideas” were you referring to?

  5. RAFE says:

    Talk about tired ideas. Everytime I check into this blog to get a chuckle I hear nothing but the same tired whining. Talk radio, Scot Walker, you lost, we won….blah, blah, blah.

    You sound like a regional Olbermann. You have your idiot in the White House, yet you rant and rave about the opposition. AND you’re still getting pounded in the ratings.

    Smitty: I would say that committing to rebuilding infrastructure, improving mass transit, calling torture torture, improving access to health insurance, ending the war in Iraq are all “new” ideas. I can’t believe Reason magazine doesn’t agree though!! Shocker.

    Dave:
    1. EXACTLY, what ideas were proposed in the GOP’s National Council for a New America?

    You’re right, they actually didn’t announce anything they’re planning on doing with this new group.

    2. EXACTLY, what “same tired ideas” were you referring to?

    Tax cuts for the rich, anti-gay agenda, “socialist” ranting, anti-labor, “NO”.

    RAFE: You continue to impress.

    * committing to rebuilding infrastructure
    – by printing money and borrowing from the chinese
    * improving mass transit
    – by printing money and borrowing from the chinese
    * calling torture torture
    – after bowing to political pressure and not wanting to put himself in a political position where he cannot invoke the ‘state secrets’ crap to save his own ass later on down the line
    * improving access to health insurance
    – will give you this one (although I don’t agree with his approach, he is genuinely trying to bring in new ideas and has — at least in his speech — not shut out any particular idea due to ideology)
    * ending the war in Iraq
    – You’ve got to be kidding me. When are we leaving Iraq, again? Also, is our war chest decreasing or increasing in size (using printed money and debt from the chinese)? Afghanistan? Pakistan? Obama is either a foreign policy neocon, or he’s afraid of looking weak. Either way, he’s sending your neighbors to die for a reason I’m unable to articulate (and, I would argue, he isn’t either). More chess playing; no change.

    Thanks Dan, you proved my point!! Slinging Democratic talking points and not having any facts.

    Actually, there are some details out about this new initiative of the GOP. The NCNA will consist of a number of open forums and town hall meetings across the country with the intention of getting the opinions and ideas of all Americans. These discussions will be broken down into five areas: the economy, health care, education, energy and national security. The first of the meetings will be taking place this weekend in northern VA.

    Is getting out and listening to the American voters the ‘tired old idea’ that you were referring to?

    You talk about Republicans and their tired old ideas without any facts. Well, I’m going to throw out the same thing; look at the Democrats and their tired old idea of raising taxes. And as factual backup, I refer to your very next post. You were so gleefully proud that you helped push through an increase in the County Sales Tax and an increase in the car rental tax! Now that’s a tired old idea!
