Sheriff David Clarke Has a ‘Plan’ to Solve Milwaukee’s Crime Problem

Current Milwaukee County Sheriff and failed city of Milwaukee mayoral candidate David Clarke has a new ‘plan’ for solving Milwaukee’s violence problem, and he decided to share it last week with the readers of Wisconsin Conservative Digest.

While sharing his master plan in a publication that more than 1% residents of Milwaukee County acutally reads would have seemed like a good idea, Clarke instead decided to focus his message on the people who could back his plan from the safety of their own cities and towns outside the Milwaukee County line. Who but themselves knew Wisconsin Conservatives were our proverbial saviors from violence in the city?!

Apparently, being Sheriff of the County just doesn’t give you the kind of authority you need to do things like lower the crime rate. Even more so when you’re department is so under-staffed because deputies are busy escorting you to and from the airport, patroling your personal property while you’re out of town, or walking beats as punishment without partners or transportation.

So what do you do? Write a position paper that’s high on fluff and low on reality for all your pals in the Republican party!

Never mind actual law enforcement to help deal with crime problems!

Position papers on violence for the Wisconsin Conservative Digest!!

With suggestions like these, it’s only a matter of time until Sheriff Clarke will have even more time in the future to spend on things like retaliating against employees for negative comments against your plan:

- School uniforms for MPS students
- Maintaining order through religous services and churches
- Cutting taxes(!)

Seriously, maybe our Sheriff should spend more time coming up with concrete plans for how his department has been and is combating crime instead of writing ridiculous position pieces in partisan rags.

Sounds like the Catholic school system I grew up in. It seems to work (although one can easily make socioeconomical arguments), but it’s a complete intermingling of schooling and religion. That’s great if you’re a private school. That’s unconstitutional if you’re a public school.

We couldn’t even get funding for textbooks if they mentioned anything about any religion.

Anyway, oppressing personal expression in clothing is one way to oppress personal expression in general. And some crimes are, at root, personal expression. But, that to me seems like suggesting that people stop walking in order to avoid spraining an ankle.

Sounds like a little bit of Mein Kampf, to me.
I can’t believe that this guy actually things this way. After reading the article, I’m reminded of the months I spent in Alabama. My favorite quote:
“The city needs someone who is less interested in holding hands and “getting along with everyone,â€? someone who will step on toes and impose their will if necessary over anyone getting in the way”

Seriously, dictators have been using that particular line for centuries.

  3. This guys needs to be voted out in 2006. Another 2004 mayoral candidate, Vince Bobot, has entered the Sheriff’s race. He’s very qualified: a former Milwaukee cop, city attorney and municipal judge who is greatly respected by the people he’s worked with. Let’s hope he can outshine the phony glam of the incumbent.

I truly believe that the Sheriff is the most qualified for the upcoming position. However, I fail to understand how he has chosen to communicate with the people he is so called protecting.

I am a citizen of the city of Milwaukee. I don’t like what is going on within this city as far as the rising crime horrors. I’m told that there is a shortage of policemen. I know that the police cannot be everywhere. Many of the citizens are truly afraid to report some of the goings on within their community. But if something doesn’t click and I mean soon, this city is going to be taken over by the thugs.

I said I feel that Dave Clarke is qualified for the job. He has a lot of credentials, but when he opens his mouth he is always saying very negative things in regards to the Black people within Milwaukee. If one would close their eyes and listen to his comments, they would think these comments are coming from the mouth of a White man that truly has problems with the Black race. I can not forget the comments he made regarding poor people. He critized the higher offices of this nation and labeled them as weak because they somewhat supported programs for the poor. Sheriff’s Clarke’s remedy was to allow them to die in the streets. But did not Dave Clark grow up in a government housing project. Did he not benefit from government sponsored programs when he went to college. And why did the Shephard Express print on the front page a story pertaining to Dave Clarke being fired as a policeman because of not following the rules and drunkedness?

I just don’t see how the citizens of Milwaukee will trust to re-elect a leader like Mr. Clarke. I feel somewhat skeptical.
