I think that's me, anyway.

I feel like I should add that I left evolt and removed the link I had once had to them from my site after that little episode. While I wasn't a particularly active member, I had grown tired of the sideways glances and lack of any sort of thanks or appreciation I got from the 'powers-that-be' whenever I did try to help, finally while he was visiting Chile. (And kudos should be delivered here to Dean Mah, who was always a total gentleman to me during my time with the keys...)

What could have been a beautiful thing was ruined, all because of the deluded self-importance of a handful of folks there, and that's really too bad.

But I - like Dan - have moved on. Good for us! Too bad for them.

I just stopped in while digging up pics of the gallun tannery. I found you on google with the text "I've realized that google.com is returning my site as a top hit for 'Gallun Tannery" Congrats, you're now number 3 for hits on google.

To the person above about who re-installs an app server from scratch, I just did 21 of them on Monday because of someone setting up a terrible firewall and a script kiddie making a mess once the firewall was compromised.

Oh, If you still live in the Tannery apts, I'll be a neighbor in about a month and a half.
Nice to meet you neighbor.

oh, and double irony at that. Haven't read your blog in over two months, until today. Somethings are just meant to be read I guess. Miss you and your participation, but understand your need to leave. Hope you realize it's never been about the person, neither then nor now (except maybe when I yelled at you that time, that dreadful time - I take full "credit" for that).

It's been interesting eleven months since your departure, a lot of weird moments as well as hectic schedules and swifts. Maybe we'll grow out of it one day. I truly hope so.

Take care
Elfur

P.S. He did get paid, at least some of it, but too little to late.

What kind of colo provider are you guys using? I've never heard of one of the clients working on the electrical problems or troubleshooting "network degradation" issues for the colo provider before. And who totally re-installs an application server like that??

Dan, glad to hear things are going well and congrats on the wedding!! I don't know if evolt is heading down the right path or not as I was only a member for a short time, but a friend of mine was telling me that he submitted an article for publication and didn't hear anything back about it for weeks. He ended up publishing it on a different website in the end, but told me he didn't understand why a site would hawk for content so hard just to sit on it for a few weeks.

Anyways, take care, and pass on my congrats to Jen! :^)

To be fair, theforum is hounding that other person as well regarding access to the server, notification, and uptime.

Since you quoted my message, I just wanted to clarify that I've never had a problem with who had access to the server so my position hasn't changed. I trust the judgement of the whoever is hosting the site to decide who has access. If that's a problem, then maybe that person shouldn't be hosting in the first place. Address the cause, not the effect.

The fun comes in when people who talk a good game when it's someone else doing the work and taking responsibility realize that it's not as easy as it might seem, either because of the shitload of work that they get or the shit that they have to sometimes put up with, and then to remember that they volunteered for it.
