Weekend Update

Published by Daniel Cody at 9:39 am under Personal

A few months ago, I wrote about how I’d taken on the ‘Linux Product Review’ position at Digital Web magazine and should have an article out ‘real soon’.

I’m happy to announce - albeit a bit slower than I had anticipated - the first article under the ‘Linux Product Review’ banner at DW and my first public writing in over a year, a review of the Quanta Gold editor on the Linux platform.

The verdict for those who aren’t into HTML editors or Linux: It’s not a bad HTML editor/environment, but is pretty rough around the edges. Hopefully the wheels begin to turn a bit faster now, and another article is ready soon :)

Another event that I’ve been working hard on lately(with a great deal of help from a number of people) is the new f2o Groups service which provides mailing lists and newsletter management services, as well as a few other fun extras. In the spirit of f2o.org, it’s a free service to our existing members, although there are options for others as well. I’m pretty excited about the new service, since I’ve got years of experience with the Mailman package it’s based on. Having that experience allows me to put in a lot of little tweaks and enhancements that really makes it stand out from other hosted mailing list places.

Also this weekend, Jenny and I got to taste some different cakes from a potential ‘wedding cake maker’, and man were they good. We didn’t even have to sit through a meeting or anything, they just let us pick up two six inch cakes and take them home! I’m starting to think the hardest part of our wedding is going to be losing the weight I’ve put on over the past 2 months from all the catering tastings and now cake tastings! Not that I’m complaining ;)

    Dan,

Funny you wrote an article on this … I have been using Quanta Plus for a while now. I really like it, but you are right, it is a little rough around the edges. One thing that irks me is when I mount an NFS share (home LAN, don’t worry ;) ) and then save, the directory tree in the left pane will minimize back to the DocumentRoot.

Speaking of the left pane, it’s sooo nice that you can move that baby whereever you want. You can move it so that it’s its own window outside of the application … nice!

I’m very impressed with the quality of this application. You’re correct when you say that any Homesite user will feel right at home … very similar.

Probably the best HTML editor for Linux right now.

BTW - good article, as usual.

I read the review this morning, but didn’t realize that you had written it.

It appears you’ve spent all your time recently researching and writing, rather than say, oh…. tuning up for Mr. Risk.
