What I Learned From Conservative Talk Radio Today: Summerfest Edition
Today I learned from right-wing talk show programs that if 13 year old kids can’t hop into a high-tech simulator to practice killing people at a family orientated festival, you should boycott that festival.
I say good for Summerfest. This isn’t about “supporting the troops” - which interestingly enough only comes from the right when they’re supporting stuff like this, not things like GI Bills and Veterans health care - the “game” would be inappropriate despite who was running it at an event like Summerfest which has enough problems as it is attracting families.
You also learned that a grandmother from Oconomowoc — who called to say she did not oppose the existence of this war game but didn’t think it should be open to 13 year olds at Summerfest — is a hand-wringing, far-left, military-hating, fringe-dwelling disgrace.
Man I’m glad I never decided to seek offense in everything I see and hear.
Dan,
Oddly, the people at Summerfest see nothing wrong with the presence of the Play Station trailer where family oriented festival attendees can play “Grand Theft Auto” with the kids and try their skill at shooting cops and asassinating politicians.
The Army simulator is rated “T” for Teen while Grand Theft is rated “M” for Mature. If the Army “game” is “inappropritate” for Summerfest, why isn’t “Grand Theft Auto” also inappropriate?
The real problem isn’t the simulated violence, it’s the Army’s presence which some people (including you) always seem to find objectionable. The Army Drill Team is scheduled to perform at Summerfest this weekend, perhaps you find that objectionable too.
The GTA does deserve it’s own criticism, but that’s not what I was talking about above.
The problem for me isn’t the Army, despite what Mark Belling was trying to portray this afternoon for over an hour. I said that in the original post.
Of course I don’t find the drill team objectionable. Why would you even suggest that, other than try to perpetuate this meme that those on the left HATE THE MILITARY!?
Because I don’t think kids should be playing a high-tech realistic killing simulator at a family festival?
Please.
You and the talk radio hosts can try to repeat things like that all you want hoping they catch on. It doesn’t make them even remotely true.
As I’ve said twenty times here before, it’s ridiculous that anyone would even attempt to call in to question my views towards those in the military as anything less than completely supportive. My family has a longer history of honorable military service and has sacrificed more in that service than anyone who’s sole “service” to this Country consists of pounding away at a keyboard or screaming into a microphone could ever dream about.
Like I said, that’s a ridiculous comment Smitty. I’ll leave it at that.
My service to this country involved a lot more than “pounding away at a keyboard” so your implied smear is a non-issue.
But you haven’t addressed the main issue, why was the Left so selective in its objection to virtual mayhem at Summerfest?
I’ve reached my own conclusion, a conclusion reinforced by a perusal of some Wisconsin “progressive” blogs.
