From the “what I learned from right-wing talk radio” category today…
It’s “stupid!” for America to utilize wind and solar energy to power homes and businesses according to Jay Weber of WISN 1130.
Why?
I mean really… why? Other than the fact that a Democrat like Al Gore is the latest to propose such an idea, and the right-wing just hates Al Gore, why on it’s merits is renewable energy a bad idea?
If it weren’t Al Gore, and say a staunch Republican political contributor like T. Boone Pickens making the same proposal, would that be “stupid!” too?
Maybe some of my conservative friends can explain it to me.
I live in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI with my wife Jen, our daughter Emerson, and son Carter.
Speaking of Al Gore, he gave a speech in Washington, D.C. the other day, arriving and leaving in style. Apparently frugality is for the little people.

You’ve got to practice what you preach. Otherwise you’re just an ecological Jimmy Swaggert.
Dan, find any bit of tape, ever, where I said using wind and solar are stupid. Whatever you ‘learned’ from talkradio was your own invention. I have never said wind and solar are stupid. I’ve said they aren’t ‘the’ answer, because they will never meet our full energy needs. As for Gore, he is a dope, but in talking about his new plan, I never said wind and solar are stupid. Thinking that we can shut down our nuclear and coal plants and convert them all over to wind and solar, now that’s stupid. Coal and nuclear currently provide 72 percent of our electricity.
I like the blog, but please, don’t put words in my mouth.
Jay, I guess the first clue was the synopsis from the show, “July 18: Al Gore gives a stunningly stupid speech and no one in the media catches it or calls him on it.”
In the segment you repeatedly called his speech, including it’s content and delivery, “stupid”, and by extension, the policy itself was stupid too.
Personally, I don’t think there’s anything stupid about investing in renewable power tech. like wind and solar. While one of your callers that day made that point, which you seemed to laugh at, that “the sun doesn’t create jobs”, the same holds true for “oil sitting in the ground”.
There’s a massive amount of opportunity to create good jobs and stimulate the economy in America by investing and researching renewable tech.
I personally believe that’s a good thing, not something to be mocked or lambasted.
Thanks for the comments…
