I don’t think the media loves anything more than when the President takes a ‘surprise’ visit to Iraq. They just can’t talk enough about how he was supposed to have meetings all day at Camp David, but *poof*, he just up and made a surprise visit to Iraq in the middle of the night without anyone but the kool kids press corps knowing!
I had a conversation with some Republican pals over the weekend and one of them asked me what it was going to take for me, as a Democrat, to declare victory in Iraq. I didn’t have an absolute answer to that question, but one sign of impending victory will be the day when our leaders aren’t forced to sneak into Iraq in the middle of the night under a blackout.
The fact that we’re still forced to make ‘surprise’ visits to Iraq and Afghanistan says alot about how successful we’ve been in securing those two countries.
I live in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI with my wife Jen, our daughter Emerson, and sons Carter and Colton.

I didn’t have an absolute answer to that question,I didn’t have an absolute answer to that question,
Most Democrats do not have an answer, yet choose to complain that we are not going about the war correctly. No offense intended, just pointing out that you, “as a Democrat”, are not alone.
Victory in Iraq? If anyone still thinks that’s achievable, they have no clue about the situation.
Everyone I know has agreed that it can’t be won by conventional means, anymore. That opportunity has passed. We’re just going to sit there until the policy experts can craft something that will pass as “victory.”
You guys are nuts!!! This is so old. Didn’t you see the President on the aircraft carrier?! That was like three years ago! The mission was accomplished. It said it right there on that banner. Victory for democracy and all of that! Woo-whoo! Hoorah!
Shouldn’t we really be talking about more important things like gay people getting married or something?
“Most Democrats do not have an answer” – and what, most Republicans do?? Gimme a break. Republicans haven’t had an answer – or have plastered the wrong answer up on banners on air craft carriers – for over THREE YEARS now, and you’re banging on someone like me who can at least admit I don’t know what the answer is? Classic.
See the Rove post from this afternoon.. Same thing. “Well hell, we don’t know what the hell we’re doing THREE YEARS in, but let’s mock the Democrats!” That’s on heck of an answer.
The only victory we are going to have in Iraq is pyrrhic. We probably could have bought off all of the Ba’th party for what we spent blowing the country up.
*sigh*
??? What’s the Republican plan for victory? You seemed to infer that they did have a plan when you pointed out what you saw as a fault in my response as a Democrat.
