Where’s the Political Outrage Over $3.00/Gallon Gas Two Months Later?

Remember two months ago at the end of April, when every media outlet was reporting on the high price of gasoline at $3.00/gallon and every politician had a plan to do something about it?

Newsflash: A gallon of gasoline in Milwaukee Wisconsin now costs $3.15/gallon which is even more than it did two months ago or after Hurricane Katrina, and I have a few questions about it.

Where’s the media frenzy now? Where are the press conferences from our leaders in the government? And most importantly, why are we still paying over $3.00 for a gallon of gasoline?

  1. The media frenzy was overblown in the first place. We have been paying less for gasoline than a lot of places in the world for years. Having higher gas prices is a good way to get people to consider alternatives to driving or to encourage people to get cars with better gas mileage.

Bruno, I know we’ve been paying a lot less for gasoline than other places in the world, but that still doesn’t explain why gasoline today is nearly an entire dollar more than it was this time a year ago. While higher gas prices may be a nice way for people to reconsider their existing driving habits or fuel milage, not everyone is fortunate enough to make the choice between owning a car that gets great gas mileage and one that doesn’t.
