Wisconsin State Assembly Rejects Concealed Weapons Veto

Published by Daniel Cody at 2:30 pm under Politics

Just a few minutes ago, the Wisconsin State Assembly voted to not overturn Gov. Doyle’s veto of a bill that would have allowed people to carry concealed handguns, knives, and other weapons to shopping malls, outdoor concerts, and other public areas.

Bottom line is that once again, the pro-gun movement has been defeated in their attempts to arm people as an excuse for protecting them. The twisted logic is that more guns on the streets would make the streets safer.

Thankfully, the Governor veto’d that bill and it’s logic, and the Assembly has upheld his veto. This is a huge win for Democrats in the State Assembly although a very close one.

Now maybe the Republican controlled legislature can get down to real business like creating jobs, expanding health care for children, and fiscal policy that will help middle class families across the State.

Instead, expect to see more issues from Republicans intended to divide Wisconsin like anti-gay initiatives, photo ID voting, and controlling women’s contraceptive choices.

Regardless, this is a big day for those who oppose violence and guns on the streets in the towns and cities of Wisconsin.

Right on! The last thing we need are more excuses for guns in the streets. Let’s keep Wisconsin safe.

The concealed carry law isn’t going to make a big impact either way on its own. Not many people are going to jump through the hoops needed to get a permit. Maybe it could pave the way for other legislation allowing people to do crazy things with guns in public, but most likely not.

    That’s some rare good news!

I agree that the permit process would stop a lot of people from actually getting a permit. But I fear that your average Joe would have heard just the headline on the 10:00 news - “Concealed carry law passes - Wisconsin citizens can now …” - and assumed that it was OK to pack their Gloc the next morning.

You people are ignorant. You think that everyone is just going to go around carring guns and shooting everything like the wild west. Thats not the case. Not passing a concealed carry law only limits law abiding citizens. The criminals are still going to get guns on the black market and now they wont fear anyone that they rob or rape because they know that no one has a weapon on them. Wisconsin is only one out of four states that dont have a concealed carry law and you dont hear about increased violence and people shooting everyone else in the other 46 states that have a law. The only reason it didn’t pass was because Doyle is an idiot and threatened to take away state funding from the assembly members that voted to override his veto. They had to vote in his favor in order to keep their funding. Doyle is a criminal and I sure wont vote for him in the next election. So before you liberals start going off on republicans about not caring about others, you should do some research and trust the law abiding citizens of Wisconsin.

So in the other 46 states that allow people to carry a concealed weapon, they don’t have to deal with rape and robbery crimes anymore?
