Two exciting new updates this month in the Windows Webserver Hall of Shame!
Dec 03 2002
The latest offering from the Windows Webserver Hall of Shame (WWHOS) is now available for your viewing pleasure! :)
I couldn’t resist taking a screencap of this particular Windows IIS server being down, especially since it was hosting a site which was reporting on a Microsoft backed study that claimed Windows 2000 had a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to Linux, in part because the study attributed nearly 25% of the cost of running a Linux server to downtime!
Ohhhhh the sweet sweet irony!
I Like The Windows Webserver Hall of Shame.
BTW - If you haven’t read the “sponsored” study, they don’t include the cost of licensing in the report … slight oversight. The “sponsored” report adds the cost over 5, count ‘em 5, years. How many upgrades does one have to pay for over 5 years … especially with the great new licensing plan. ;)
Anyway, it all distracts from the real reason I posted this … I like the Windows Webserver Hall of Shame.

Thanks for bringing up the ‘5 year study’ part Joe, it reminds me of another fallacy from the study.. How are they calculating total cost of ownership over a five year period when Windows 2000 has only been out for two years? When studys like this start projecting ‘estimated’ costs, as they must have done, it shoots even more holes in what is attempting to be a bullet proof PR piece from MS.. Oh, and how about the timing of this study being released??
When something like this is released the day before the Enterprise Linux Forum in Boston should clear any confusion about it’s validity as anything other than a PR fluff piece.
